I’ve never made it any secret that my passion for photography and having it as a business has two parts…something I feel God has plopped into me that I just can’t help but act on, and a way to better care for my family by allowing me to be home with them during times I might not normally be able to with a typical “9-5″ job (are there any of those anymore? let’s be realistic and say more like, “8-6″ job). I met a tall, skinny, smiley girl in 5th grade who changed my life. Well, she changed my life then anyway. I had just left a very small school to return to a bigger school, and wasn’t sure where my “place” was and in maneuvering through hormones, and awkward pre-teen moments, she became my best friend in the whole world. We had sleepovers, and baked cookies, we rode on parades for girl scouts, and played tennis. We swam and with my little rectangle flip camera I took more pictures of her that my mom had to have processed than any other friend! She told me later we had a whole album of Wendy, if we wanted it, hehe. I even think I rode my first horse at her house, and I remember it being a particularly scary experience.
What she probably didn’t know at the time, was that there were other things swirling around in my life at the time that made being a “little girl” a difficult thing to hold onto. And her friendship was a treasured gift. Some of the best friends I have now were made at that point in my life, and I am so forever thankful and blessed by them, nomatter how much time between then and now went by.
So, as I mentioned, I’m always looking for ways to better improve upon my life, and the lives of my sweet family. Eating better tops the list! This sweet friend has just amped up what I was starting by creating her own blog (justonemomma) and now writing for Today’s Mama for DFW Mama (really awesome resource for mommy’s in the Dallas/Ft Worth area) and I couldn’t be prouder of her!! Her advice is amazing, and the deals she finds are spectacular! I was also blessed several times to photograph her family. She has twins who are almost 4, and a now 2 year old! If she has time to cook healthy, coupon, and care for her family helping them have a “life well lived” I think we all do!
Besides putting up clear parameters for my business so that my time working is sacred, and my family time is sacred, this is another step toward our “life well lived.” I know it doesn’t scream of photography, but I hope that by sharing the other parts of my life so near and dear to me, you will know me better as a person, and a photographer. When we are blessed to photograph your wedding or event, or family, we are becoming a part of something special and cherished in your life…and you are becoming a part of ours, and I want every client that I have to feel that. I want you to love our work, but to choose us for even more than that.
I’ve included an image from Wendy’s shoot, isn’t her family adorable!!?
Even though its from last year, the colors just remind me of Spring!
