Wedding Favorites of 2010

Its hard to believe its time for another installments of “last” years favorites but here we are!! And here I am, spending hours trying to decide…so this year, I’m breaking it down. These are just plain favorites…but coming up, there will be bridal and engagement favorites, and the best of all….”wedding moment” favorites. You know, those super amazing captured moments at every wedding that somehow convey just how special that day was to everyone attending, to the couple, the parents….honestly, I love to “set up” shots…but nothing beats the genuine real captured shots. So many venues that we have been to and had the honor of shooting at this year in the Dallas area, and abroad. We have had a blast in 2010, and are even more excited about where 2011 will take us…believe me, there are some exciting images coming your way this year!

Lindsey’s Bridal :: The Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas

Weeks ago, we had the honor of shooting Lindsey’s bridal shoot at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. What an absolutely GORGEOUS location and this was a perfect fit for Lindsey. She envisioned marble, lots of light, huge ceilings, something grand for her bridals…and this was most definitely grand! Lindsey was finally married to Steven yesterday at the equally beautiful Ashton Gardens, and we were blessed to be there to photograph this amazing event. More on that to come…but for now, enjoy images of Lindsey at The Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. Lindsey is as sweet as she is beautiful, and we had so much fun running around the Meyerson playing with the many gorgeous lines of this Center!

Lindsey, you are a joy to your family, your friends, and now your husband..thank you for letting us be part of that on hot day in August for these bridal images!

Married :: Jonathan & Brittney’s Frisco/Mckinney Wedding (Part 1)

The first time I met with Jonathan & Brittney, I knew within the first 20 minutes they *loved* the vintage look, feel, and images. From the hand beaded sash on her wedding dress, to the antique dressing house at Frisco Heritage Museum and Chapel, to the vintage Phantom they left in…even the Grand Hotel in Mckinney where the reception was held, this wedding was a dream to photograph. I absolutely loooove the vintage wedding, so creating a “throwback” look was a piece-o-cake! Can you imagine an album in this vintage style?

Jonathan & Brittney were beyond wonderful to work with, as were their amazing friends and family. Whether we were sneaking around Babe’s Chicken to get the great group shots with the ladies, or out on the railroad tracks in the Texas summer heat, they were real troopers for these vintage wedding photographs. This is just part 1 of 5, I know…I know…and then there is the “after” session that will post, which had us heading to Dallas at midnight with these two, to their room at the Crescent Hotel Dallas, which definitely produced some awesome dramatic night shots!

Congratulations you two, and thank you for allowing us to be apart of this wonderful moment in your lives!

Photography Ideas: Playing with lines

Bob here. This post has to do with composition. Something I struggle with. Oh sure, I can make SB-whatevers to do thisit and thatzit on channel 3, HBO, and whatever else. Exposure settings? Check. Perfect white balance and color fidelity with gray cards? Check. Dynamic Auto-focus? Please. Full manual. Of course. Gaussian distribution of light. Sure. Understanding the technical pieces of the camera and what it is we are doing with it was never a problem for me. I am the master at taking perfectly exposed pictures that people won’t look twice at. Yet, that creative genius wife of mine, once Treva learned the technical pieces or came up with a mental cliff notes of the same (I still don’t believe she uses her camera’s light meter), is able to not only getting perfect exposures, but the most wonderful of compositions.

So I started, long ago, studying about composition. One of the easiest rules for me to understand, was using lines. I mean, it doesn’t get anymore simple than that, right? Lines are everywhere if you look for them. Not only that, the human eye understands lines, craves lines, follows line, knows lines instinctively. We find them pleasing. We find them infuriating. We find them distracting. They lead our eye to the subject of the photo. Or they make a mess of things. We get lines. However, what I didn’t get was getting those lines into the frame of my viewfinder.

….the….

…time.

So, yeah, I can study Treva’s pictures. I can study other photographer’s pictures that we admire. I can see the lines. You can see the lines. Notice the bridge that leads to the singer, notice the S curve as she walks away, the brick walk, and the lines it makes. It’s all there.

So, I guess I’m saying, for photography ideas. It doesn’t matter if it’s engagement photography, wedding photography, children’s photography…whatever. Look for lines. Use them to draw your viewer in. In Dallas…there are literally lines all over the place. But there are also lines in nature…

…implied lines from say girls jumping…in a corn field…as documented above…as they are so often inclined to do…

…looking European and ironic lines…sitting on a chair, in an industrial area filled with lines, wearing a pin striped (those are lines too, by the way) suit…

…tired…wandering along the train trucks…or the rail lines if you will…to find their way back home…it’s the lines, people!

So go forth, find those line, follow them, free them, and fire away with your camera. *Clickety-click*

Married: Laura & Jamie Dallas Arboretum wedding (Part 1 sneak peek!)

I actually met with Laura’s parents before I ever met Laura or Jamie, and her parents have so much personality, were so warm and smiled so easily and wonderfully, I KNEW I would just love their daughter! And I was right! Laura and I ran all over Adriatica for her bridal, but I was really looking forward to their beautiful wedding at the Dallas Arboretum.

The day was slated to be rainy, maybe even stormy and the clouds hovered over head. But, not only did the wet weather hold off, but during the ceremony the sun suddenly popped out from behind the clouds in the perfect position behind the bride and groom…as if planned that way, but in my mind, I couldn’t have imagined a better “detail” to this amazing wedding.

The Dallas Arboretum is a feast for the eyes, but add a gorgeous Bride to the mix? Genius. The staff at the Dallas Arboretum made this wedding go off without a hitch, and were tuned into every little detail. The cake was absolutely gorgeous, but besides being beautiful it was SO delicious!! The flowers were amazing. The ceremony was performed at the Jonsson Color Garden at the Dallas Arboretum, and the reception was at Rosine Hall.

To Laura and Jamie and your sweet family and friends: Your love for each other is permeable, it spoke volumes to the quality of character of the people who raised these two amazing people. We were honored and thankful for the opportunity to capture this precious event in your lives! Congratulations Laura & Jamie!

Nothing could stop these two from laughing…and who would want to? They are amazing together, and I am pretty sure the shots we got of them walking up the aisle, finally announced as husband and wife, say it all!

Tiffany & D’Anders had a rough road planning their wedding, but once it finally all came together, BOY howdy, did it! The Magnolia Hotel in Dallas is absolutely stunning, and I seriously think I could have photographed forever inside The Magnolia, outside The Magnolia, and that shiny red horse…it definitely welcomes you as you enter. I’ve said it before, Dallas is the most amazing city to photograph in. The city has lighting to die for, the Dallas skyline is fabulous, and a photographer is totally in her element shooting here. At least, I am! This wedding inspired my last engagement shoot I photographed in Dallas of Andrea & Stephen.

So, this has been a long time coming, but to our dearest lovelies Tiffany & D’Anders, thank you, thank you for all your hospitality and how you welcomed us in…and to The Magnolia Hotel in Dallas, you make wedding photography SO easy, it was a pleasure to work with your wonderful staff and to photograph all the details you worked so hard to create. Vendor Spotlight: The Magnolia Hotel in Dallas, Texas

Dallas wedding photography is as varied as the couple, the venue, the vendors, and the photographers, and you can see a place 100X around here, yet find something new about it each and every time…and so was the case when we shot a wedding last weekend at The Magnolia Hotel in Dallas. As it goes, most weddings have their little hiccups here and there, bumps in the road, but what a gloriously beautiful road this ended up being! Tiffany & D’Anders picked an absolutely gorgeous Dallas wedding venue, and the coordinator at The Magnolia Hotel, Jessica Smith, was amazing. She had every single detail under control, watched over the whole evening with a careful, attentive eye, and was gracious and kind as well. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Jessica and the staff. It was a pleasure to be the chosen wedding photographers at The Magnolia Hotel in Dallas, and most especially for such a sweet, kind couple like Tiffany and D’Anders! And here is just one single little peeky-peeky into their wedding. A bigger sneak peek to come!
